1946
The founder of the group, Mr. Constantinos Contos, starts
rentals by buying an Ariel motorcycle and renting it to
the RAF soldiers.
1947
Two cars are bought, a Morris 8 and a Renault.The first
office is rented out in Regaena street with the name ASTRA.
1948
A second office is rented out in the RAF airport in Nicosia.A
taxi is bought and rented out.
1949 - 1960
Fleet is expanded to 45 cars and a staff of 5 people.
1961
The Regaena office is moved to a privately
owned building next to the district court of Nicosia.
1962
An office in Limassol is established.
1963
A large contract for self drive vehicles is established
giving the company a large financial boost.
1972
Mr. Andreas Kontos become one of the Directors.
1976
ASTRA Self Drive Cars Public Ltd is formed as a Limited
Company.
1986
A shop is bought in Kato Paphos and used as a rental outlet.
1987
The group establishes the first garage for repairs and
maintenance in Ayios Dhemetios in Nicosia.
1989
Car Rental licenses increases to 240.
1990
Favours Developers Limited is formed as a private limited
company. Its prime business is the rental of immovable
property.
1994
ASTRA Self Drive Cars Public Ltd buys the franchise for
EuroDollar in Cyprus.The same year it moves into newly
built headquarters in Iroon Street in Nicosia.
1998
EuroDollar is renamed National Car Rental.
1999
ASTRA Self Drive Cars Public Ltd opens a new and modern
garage in the Engomi area in Nicosia. |
